Poindexter Fountain

Poindexter Fountain

In 1997, work to turn the old Poindexter office building into a 1,000 space parking garage was completed. The project was designed by BNIM Architects and included a small recessed open-air court in front of the building. Part of that court was this fountain.

The fountain is made of stone, concrete and slotted stainless-steel troughs. Water flows out the tops of the stone pillars and out of the steel troughs into the pools below. The bull and bear sculptures originally came from the Gibraltar Building that was located at 818 Wyandotte. When the building was demolished, they were saved and later integrated into this fountain.

The fountain sits below the sculpture titled “Rodin Rodannadanna,” by artist Donald Lipski, which features Rodin’s “The Thinker” rotated around a circle.
