Standing at attention atop a column of red marble at Liberty, Missouri’s Clay County Courthouse is a granite World War I doughboy. This memorial recognizes the heroic achievements of all Clay County men that served in World War I. Originally dedicated in 1921 at the old Courthouse which was raised in 1934, the monument was later relocated to its current home at the then-new courthouse located on the historic Liberty Square.
