Large Interior Form

Large Interior Form is located near the southeast corner of the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Garden at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, near the intersection of Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Rockhill Road.

The large bronze work, it is a little over 16 feet tall, is representative of artist Henry Moore’s interest in the abstracted human figure. He aimed to create forms that appeared to have grown inevitably and organically. The solids and voids contribute equally to its power with the artist stating that a hole was like a “revelation” because it “connects one side to the other, making it immediately more three-dimensional.”

It was cast in 1981 and in 1986 it was acquired from George Ablah of Wichita, Kansas and was a gift to the City of Kansas City by the Hall Family Foundations. Before it was placed in its current location, it was temporarily displayed at the Kansas City International Airport.
