Fountain Day 2026 brought Kansas City together once again to mark the start of fountain season, continuing a tradition that signals the arrival of spring across the city.
Despite a forecast that suggested rain, the weather held throughout the event. A sky filled with moving clouds, steady wind, and temperatures in the 70s created a setting that felt unmistakably like spring in Kansas City.
The program included remarks from city leaders and community representatives, including Mayor Quinton Lucas, members of the City Council, and KC Parks and Recreation President Beth Haden.
Representing the City of Fountains Foundation, Board President Mark McHenry spoke about the importance of stewardship and continued investment in Kansas City’s fountains.

This year’s event also reflected the city’s growing anticipation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Flags from countries around the world were present, adding an international element to the celebration and connecting Kansas City’s local tradition to a global stage.
Music played an important role throughout the event. A live performance by Fountain City Strings accompanied the program, and as the moment approached, the crowd gathered in anticipation of the annual countdown.
At the conclusion of the countdown, the fountain was turned on, marking the official start of the season. As the water began to flow, the band played “I’m Going to Kansas City”, adding a familiar and fitting soundtrack to the moment.

Artist Alex Hamil, painted live throughout the event captured the scene as it unfolded, documenting the energy of the day in real time.
