Trails West

Trails West

A large bronze-colored relief depicting a covered wagon being pulled by two pairs of oxen.

It was originally commissioned by the Kansas Department of Transportation for the Travel Information Center (AKA Kansas Visitors’ Center) located at 119th Street and Strang Line Road. When the center closed in the early 2000s, the City of Olathe acquired relief. Olathe eventually found a location for the artwork at Lone Elm Park where it helps represent Olathe’s role in the westward expansion of the country at the location of the historic Lone Elm Campground.

The names of the artist, the artist’s assistants and everyone who helped with or contributed to the creation of the artwork are all inscribed on the covered wagon.
