Skyward

Skyward

In front of the Highlands Elementary School is this sculpture of a red-tailed hawk, the mascot of the school. It was commissioned by the sixth-grade class in 2010 as a present to the school. The sculpture captures the beauty and power of the first explosion of flight as the hawk launches itself into the sky. It also represents and describes what the sixth graders at the school do as they launch into their own lives.

The three and a half foot tall by three-foot-wide sculpture made of copper and brass sits atop an 8-foot steel post encased in wood. It is in front of the school just south of the school’s main entrance.
