I’ve been painting for 17 years, always working in watercolor. For the past 8 years, I’ve focused almost entirely on plein air, painting outdoors on location, which now makes up about 90% of my work. Even though plein air painting has grown in popularity, most people still don’t know what it is, so I often get curious passersby asking what I’m up to while I’m sitting on a corner painting. It’s a great way to meet people—and spend time outside. What’s not to like?

Painting the Meyer Circle Seahorse Fountain was a special experience. I’ve driven through that roundabout hundreds of times since high school, but I never knew it was called the Meyer Circle Seahorse Fountain, let alone that it actually had sea horses on it! Painting helped me notice what I’d always overlooked.
