Crying Giant
Tom Otterness is internationally known for his sculptures of cartoonlike figures that show moments and narratives related to culture and history. Like “The Thinker,” this figure sits with his head in his hands. However, unlike “The Thinker,” this figure is obviously upset, hence the title “Crying Giant.” The larger-than-life bronze, on the southwest corner of the lawn in front of the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, is 11 feet tall and more than 14 feet deep and weighs almost three tons.
