Lionesses
Two granite lionesses flank the steps in front of the Kansas City Life Insurance Company building. The two lionesses are mirror images of each other. The Kansas City Life Insurance Company commissioned these two lionesses in 1924 to coincide with the completion of their (then) new building. Each lioness is approximately four-and-a-half feet tall and ten feet long and weighs seven tons. The cost for the two sculptures was $20,000 when commissioned.
