Celebrate the Legacy of Jim Fitzpatrick
Jim Fitzpatrick, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and beloved president of the City of Fountains Foundation, was a man of many talents and passions—including an enduring love for golf. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Jim moved to Kansas City in 1969, beginning a remarkable 37-year career with The Kansas City Times and The Kansas City Star. Known for his sharp wit and dedication to storytelling, he covered everything from rock icons like Janis Joplin to the intricacies of city and county government.
After retiring in 2006, Jim embraced a more relaxed life, spending his time golfing, walking his dog, and reading the newspaper. Alongside these pursuits, he remained deeply involved in the Kansas City community, leading the City of Fountains Foundation as its president. Under his leadership, the Foundation advanced its mission to preserve Kansas City’s iconic fountains, a cause that reflected his love for the city’s unique character.
Jim’s legacy lives on through his contributions to journalism, his dedication to the community, and his passion for golf, making this tournament a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to Kansas City and beyond.
